Satu Ranta Tyrkkö, University of Jyväskyle, gives a lecture on theatre as social work. It is based on her studie of the East India theater group Natya Chetana (Theater for Awareness). We will also see Östersunds Teaterverkstad perform a feministic play called "Yeah åkej".
Our students has just returned from their practical placements and will shortly present their findings. During the prolonged pause you can take the opportunity to meet and discuss witht them at their posters.
Key-note speaker is Satu Ranta-Tyrkkö, PhD, the topic is her PhD study from 2010 ”At the Intersection of Theatre and Social Work in Orissa, India", an ethnographic study of the East Indian theatre group Natya Chetana (Theatre for Awareness).
The lecture is followed by the performance of a feministic play called "Yeah åkej!". Two of the actors in Östersunds Teaterverkstad, who is performing the play, are students in social work from Mid Sweden University.
After the play, wich is about 30 minutes, there will be a discussion where the audience together with the ensemble will discuss the play's messages, interpretations, theater as a social tool, etc.
The department of Social Work are very much looking forward to an exciting Glocal day – once again with a shift of focus and totally new perspectives on social issues!
