Apply for research funding through municipal agreements

If you have an idea or an ongoing project that is interesting for the municipalities in Västernorrland, there is research funding to apply. Twice a semester there is an opportunity to pitch the research ideas in the regular preparation meetings. The next opportunity is already March 31.

Polis, räddningstjänst, ambulans, SOS alarm

Research advisors Martin Paju and Åsa Yderfält, at the Department Research and Education Support, FUS, are currently conducting a tour on our campuses to inform about the opportunities for research funding available through the municipal agreements. This possibility has existed in the past, but the application procedure has now been changed to facilitate the process for all parties.

”Researchers can now submit a project application twice per semester and present an idea or application to all collaborative municipalities at the same time. We will assist with the application and preparations for the presentation, which should be presented briefly and compressedly and illustrated with three pictures,” says Åsa Yderfält.

Clear societal benefits

In order for an idea to be present to the municipalities, it requires that it has a clear societal benefit and is relevant to the municipalities, and there should be a some idea about the continuum after the project period has ended. A research idea can be anchored in one or more collaborative municipalities.

“Other requirements are that the applicant should be employed at Mid Sweden University, be a doctorate and that the idea, or project, should be anchored internally,” says Martin Paju.

The cooperation agreements are adapted to the unique and special needs of the municipalities. This means that some municipalities prioritize more specific profile areas, while others focus on several disciplines.

“Our collaborative municipalities are open to ideas in a wide range of areas,” says Martin Paju.

Want to reach out to more

The two municipal preparatory meetings are 31 March and 2 May. The research advisors need to hand in the presentation, or pitch, no later than seven working days before the preparation meeting.

”Please invite us if you want to know more. It is important that we reach out to more researchers so that more people benefit from this possibility of funding. With municipal cooperation, Mid Sweden University can strengthen its role as an active partner in regional development,” says Åsa Yderfält.
