Cooperation project between Sweden and the US — SIREUS

Mid Sweden University has been a member of the Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce (SACC-USA) since 2020. The membership was initially based on the possibility of cooperation with companies within the Chamber of Commerce, talent mobility between Sweden and the US and some support for visas.

In 2021, SACC-USA together with the then Science Counselor at the Swedish Embassy in Washington DC proposed a project on a platform for talent mobility. This proposal has since then been further processed into what is today SIREUS — Students, Innovators, Researchers, Entrepreneurs, United States, Sweden.

SIREUS is a three-year project that connects 13 Swedish higher education institutions, SACC-USA, the Embassy in Washington DC, the Swedish Institute (Si), Vinnova and the KK-stiftelsen. The project also includes 7 affiliated U.S. universities, but more are under process to be included. The project will also be linked to affiliated companies.

The project has 4 work areas called “university”, “business”, “innovation”, “recruitment” — and the target group at Mid Sweden University is broad. If you have existing collaborations in the United States, or embryos for collaborations; if you do not have collaborations but would like to have them — you all fit within the project as it is formulated. However, the project is in its infancy, and what can be concretely implemented will need to be discovered together.

To disseminate information about the project, two info sessions and a Q & A session are carried out during week 9. If you do not have the opportunity to participate this week, you can notify the responsible project manager at MIUN and we will carry out more sessions.
