Emanuel Magnusson, outgoing president of the student union in Östersund, has been given a new assignment. For six months, he will lead a project on student social activities and student influence with the goal of making Mid Sweden University known as a university that puts students at the center.

The project is partly about getting students to be attracted to our campus locations, and partly to get the students who study at Mid Sweden University to thrive even more and want to stay after completing their education. By identifying good examples and ways of working and doing different kinds of targeted activities, the goal is for Mid Sweden University to stand out nationally.

– There is a great interest from the organization but also from the surrounding community that Mid Sweden University should be at the forefront in terms of student influence and social activities. So I know that a lot of good and exciting things are being done, but it needs to be organized and concretized. I'm looking forward to mapping this and meeting interesting people locally, nationally and internationally who can inspire us," says Emanuel Magnusson.

As the project ends at the end of June, the days are relatively busy. An analysis of the world around him has begun and he is excited to continue working with student issues – but in a different way than he is used to.

– It is important to make the students visible and therefore it feels particularly fun that it has been identified as a priority area from the management, says Emanuel, who studied administrative law and took a bachelor's degree in political science at Mid Sweden University.

A positive overall experience for students

The initiative for the project comes from Deputy Vice-Chancellor Anna Olofsson.

– It is very important for Mid Sweden University that the students get the influence they are entitled to and their involvement in all decision-making and preparatory bodies is crucial for the development of our activities, says Anna Olofsson and continues:

– In 2018/19, Östersund was named Student City of the Year and Sundsvall is also a very committed municipality when it comes to student social activities. Now we want to increase our contribution to making the time at the university a positive experience, both of the education and life in general.

She hopes that the project will lead to a positive overall experience for the students and that Mid Sweden University will be known for putting the students at the center.
