VPN

Allmänt

As long as you have an internet connection, VPN allows you to connect to Miun’s network when you are outside the university. This allows you to access many of the Miun systems that are usually not accessible from outside, such as Agresso.

In order to connect to Miun’s network via VPN, your Mac needs to have an internet connection. There are two different ways to connect; the classic VPN connection via a server, or via our new FortiClient VPN, which runs directly via our firewall to Mid Sweden University’s network.

Click on the FortiClient icon and select Connect to MIUN.

To be able to connect to Miun's network via VPN, your computer first and foremost needs to have an internet connection. There are then two different ways to connect. The classic VPN connection via a server, or via our new FortiClient VPN which goes directly via our firewall to Mid Sweden University's network.

Below are instructions for both ways:

Classic VPN via server

The settings for MIUN VPN are already available on all the university's installed computers. If your computer has been reinstalled by someone other than the IT department or for some other reason does not have a MIUN VPN, please contact the Helpdesk.

You can connect classic VPN in two ways, either when you log in to the computer, or when you are already logged in to the computer. Below we describe the two different ways.

1. Connect classic VPN before logging in the computer.

  • Turn on the computer and connect it to the Internet. This is the right button marked in red in the image below. It may look different if you connect to a wireless network.

  • Once the computer is connected to the internet, click on the left red button in the image above to connect the VPN.
  • Enter your usual login details (username + password) and connect.

  • When the computer is connected via VPN, you can log in to the computer in the usual way.

2. Connect classic VPN when you are already logged in to the computer.

  • If you are already logged in to the computer, click on the buttons marked in red as shown below. You will find these in the system tray next to the clock. The first button may look like different if you are connected to a wireless network.

You can connect VPN via FortiClient in two ways, either when you log in to the computer, or when you are already logged in to the computer. Below we describe the two different ways.

Here you can choose whether you want to log in with or without VPN.

  • If you have FortiClient installed, it will appear in the system tray next to the clock.

  • Click the FortiClient icon and select Connect to MIUN.
