Active learning
Here you can find recommendations for some tools that can be used in active learning. Before you start using a program, read through their 'how to'-information. If you want to see how a program works in a practical sense, Youtube is a good place to find tutorials. A lot of people have shared their own films on how they use these tools (and many other tools, of course!).
Padlet
Padlet can be used as a shared writing area, where many people can work at the same time. All you need to do is create a padlet and then share the web link to the padlet with your students. A good tool for brainstorming, gathering of information, quick surveys and so on. Padlet is just as easy to use in the LMS Moodle as in the classroom.
An unlimited number of people can use the padlet at the same time.

PollEverywhere
PollEverywhere can be used to make surveys or quizzes. There are six types of questions; multiple choice, word cloud, up-and-down vote, rank order, clickable image and open ended. The students answer through a web link or via text message (an option that you can disable if you wish) and you can follow the answers live on a big screen in the class room. Afterwards, you can extract reports of the answers. A plugin program gives you the opportunity to embed the quiz in a PowerPoint presentation.
A maximum of 25 people can take part in a quiz if you are using the free version of the program

Socrative
Socrative is also a program where you can create quizzes. There are three types of questions; multiple choice, true or false and short answer. There's also an exit ticket which can be used for short exit evaluations. The students answer via the webpage or via an app. As a teacher you can extract different types of reports to evaluate the students' knowledge.
A maximum of 50 people can take part in a quiz if you are using the free version of the program

Kahoot
Kahoot is used as an interactive, timed quiz. You create multiple choice questions and the students use their smart phones or computers to answer. Between each question you get to see a leader board, so it fosters a competition mentality with the students. Kahoot can be used to check knowledge levels, who have read the assigned material, if they followed the lecture and so on.
An unlimited number of people can answer a Kahoot quiz at the same time.

Plickers
Plickers is a tool that enables teachers to do formative assessments in real time. As a teacher you need a smart phone, the Plickers app, a computer connected to a big screen. The students only need a card with a code on it, which you will provide for them by printing them from the Plickers web page. The sides of the card are marked A, B, C and D. Once you have asked a question, the students answer by holding up their cards with the right side up, and you can quickly scan the codes with your phone, which collects the data and presents it on the big screen.

Nearpod
Nearpod works as an interactive Powerpoint. You upload your regular Powerpoint presentation into Nearpod, and adds interactive moments to them there, such as quizzes, polls, fill in the blanks, web content, draw it, open-ended questions etc. It provides the opportunity for direct feedback, exercises and evaluations.
The students get a web address and a code to connect to the Nearpod via their desktop/tablet/phone, they don't have to download or install anything. The students can then see the entire presentation on their device. Because of that, Nearpod works just as well in campus classes as in distance education classes.
A maximum of 20 people can participate in a class in the free version of Nearpod. A silver membership costs $129 annually and give you access to all features and a maximum of 50 people per session.
