VT 2023 Theory of social and cultural sciences, 7.5 credits

Short information about the course: 

The course deals with epistemological problems of particular relevance to the human sciences. This includes the study of influential scientific theoretical schools of thought and comparisons between human scientific disciplines of scientific traditions. An important element of the course is also the critical discussion of various epistemological doctrines implications for human science research. The course covers various scientific philosophical approaches such as logical positivism, social constructivism, hermeneutics, phenomenology, critical thinking.

This course is divided into seminars with Tourism Studies (weeks 4 and 5), History, (weeks 6, 7 and 8) and English (weeks 9 and 10). 

• Week 4: Module 1, Friday 27 Jan, 9:00–12:00: Introduction into the Philosophy of Social Science
• Week 5: Module 2, Friday 3 Feb, 9:00–12:00: Ontological Reflections on Contemporary Economic & Management Science
• Week 6: Module 3, Tuesday 7 February, 10.15–12.00: Continental Philosophy of the Humanities and Social Sciences
• Week 8: Module 4, Tuesday 21 February, 10.15–12.00: Foucault: The Archaeology of Knowledge
• Week 9: Module 5, Wednesday 1 March, 13.15–15.00: Bakhtinian Thought
• Week 10: Module 6, Wednesday 8 March, 13.15–15.00: Bourdieu: Classed Socio-ecologies
