Individual study syllabi
Under the Higher Education Ordinance, an individual study syllabus must be created for each doctoral student. It must contain the commitments of the higher education institution and a timetable for the doctoral student's education. The plan must be adopted following consultation with the doctoral student and the doctoral student’s supervisor.
The individual study syllabus must be regularly monitored and, following consultation with the doctoral student and the doctoral student’s supervisor, be amended by the higher education institution to the extent necessary. At Mid Sweden University, individual study syllabi are managed in the Research Database.
Administration
On admission
At the time of admission, the faculty office creates a draft study syllabus in the Mid Sweden University research database. The third-cycle student and supervisor are informed of this and requested to submit information and approve the study syllabus as soon as possible.
Annually
At the end of each year, the study syllabus must be revised and approved by the third-cycle student and supervisor. The Research Faculty monitors the study syllabi for all third-cycle students in the subject, and the Council for Third-Cycle Education decides on study syllabi for the faculty’s third-cycle students.
Roles
Third-cycle student
In consultation with supervisor, enters information into the study syllabus about planned and completed elements in the third-cycle education. Course results that have been registered in Ladok and publications that have been entered into Diva are transferred automatically.
Supervisor
Assists third-cycle student in planning the coming year, scores completed thesis sections (milestones) and approves the individual study syllabus.
The Research Faculty
Monitors the individual study syllabi for third-cycle students in the subject.
The Council for Third-Level Education
Approves individual study syllabi for third-cycle students within the faculty.
