Call for applications for doctoral students' research environment
This call is part of the faculty's ambition to increase the internationalisation of research through increased exchange with research environments outside Sweden with a focus on doctoral students.
Background and purpose
This call is part of the faculty's ambition to increase the internationalisation of research through increased exchange with research environments outside Sweden with a focus on doctoral students.
The call provides targeted support for exchanges with international research groups in order to develop existing contacts and establish new research collaborations. The needs of doctoral students will be the focus of this activity, which aims to:
- Establish new and strengthen existing international research contacts
- Disseminating research results
- Make Mid Sweden University's research visible
- Establish external partners
- Support the work on joint applications within the EU
How much funding can be applied for and who should apply?
- Up to SEK 40,000 applied for by a supervisor
- Granted funds must be used in 2024.
What can the funds be used for?
- Incoming researchers/doctoral students in connection with mini-conferences, seminars, and workshops that cover parts of travel costs/accommodation/expenses. The research group may dispose of the funds given, free to dispose of them, and possibly contribute to extend the visit (time/number of people). Essentially, this will be aimed at inviting established senior researchers in intended collaboration groups, who can of course bring colleagues or doctoral students with them.
- Travelling to visit other research groups, where all or part of the research group travels. This may apply to activities similar to those for incoming external researchers, but also for shorter stays for doctoral students (days – a few weeks) at another higher education institution. This can also be further supported through Erasmus in cases where the trip takes place to one of our partner universities, which allows for longer stays. Please note that it is not primarily a travel grant, but a contribution to strengthening strategic internationalisation through travel. The funds may be used for smaller workshops and seminar series, but not for participation in research conferences.
When should I apply?
Applications for support will be processed on an ongoing basis at regular FUR meetings in 2024.
How should the application be made?
The application is submitted to the Council for Doctoral Education (FUR), which decides on the support in consultation with the relevant head of department. The application (max 2 pages) must contain
- A brief description of the doctoral student/researcher/research group that the exchange is intended
- A brief justification why the group needs this contact where the doctoral student perspective is highlighted
- An overview of how the exchange is planned
- A simple budget or summary of the breakdown of the costs of the planned mobility as justification for the amount applied for.
What happens next?
Those who have applications approved will receive additional information about financial management and follow-up after the exchange has been completed.
