FAQ about Zoom

What kind of equipment do I need to be able to use Zoom?
The same as for Adobe Connect or Skype. A computer, tablet or smartphone with a stable internet connection, a headset and a web camera.

Do I have to download an app or a programme to be able to use Zoom?
If you use a computer, a Zoom client will be automatically downloaded the first time you click on a Zoom link. If you want to participate through smartphone or tablet, you need to download the ZOOM Cloud Meetings App from App Store or Play Store.

How do I log into Zoom?
It is the same username and password as for the student portal.

How do I log into the Zoom app?
Download the ZOOM Cloud Meetings app from App Store or Play Store. Click on Sign in and choose Sign in with SSO. For company domain, write miun-se. That will take you to the regular Miun log in, log in there to start using the app.

How do I find my lecture in Zoom?
Your teacher will provide a link to the lecture in an agreed upon way, probably through Moodle or the class schedule. It will not be the same link for all lectures in the course, there will be new links created for each lecture. So make sure it is today's link you have found.

When do I turn on my camera and microphone?
When you log into the meeting you will be prompted to join with your computer audio. Here, you can also check your sound quality. Clicking on Join with Computer Audio will start your microphone, or you can wait to start both audio and video until you are in the meeting. As a student, you will not always have to start either video or audio. If there are many participants in the lecture, it can be very cluttered if all cameras are on. Perhaps you only need to turn it on to give a presentation? Your teacher will have to guide you on how they want it in their lecture. However, always keep your microphone off when you are not speaking, as background noise can be very bothering.

Can I share my screen in Zoom to give a presentation?
Yes, if you want to show the other participants something in Zoom you can share your screen. You do this by clicking Share and choose if you want to share your screen or a specific programme on your computer. The difference between those two is that if you share your screen, everyone can see anything you do on your screen even as you change between programmes on your computer, whereas if you are sharing a specific programme the other will only see that programme, so if you move to another programme on the computer they will not see that.

When do I use the chat?
The chat is a communication tool for when you are many participants in the same Zoom meeting and you have your microphones off. In the chat, you can ask the teacher questions, comment if you cannot see or hear the teacher or communicate with other students.

Can students use Zoom by themselves, for e.g. group meetings?
No, students do not have access to Zoom other than as participants.

If something is not working, where do I turn?
If you are having a problem logging in or with other technical details, contact helpdesk@miun.se. In all other errands regarding Zoom, you turn to your course coordinator or teacher.
