A warm welcome to the course Sport Science MA, Sports specific exercise training, 7,5 Credits and as a student at Mid Sweden University.

Welcome to the forth course “Training Sciences focused on Selected Sports” that is part of Masters Degree in Sports Science – Performance Optimisation with a Focus on Elite Sport!
The course aims to identify and evaluate the current development and research work in training science focused on selected sports. We hope that you will enjoy the course and Mid Sweden University!

We are starting with our first lecture on Thursday, 5th of April, 2018, (14:00 - 16:00).
The lecture will be delivered ONLINE via Adobe connect teaching/learning platform.
The lectures will be provided from Östersund, Campus, Hus D (conference room).
there is one obligatory campus meeting (25th - 27th of May, 2018 in Östersund.)

Four weeks before the beginning of the course you will get access to your schedule www.miun.se/schemasok. Please note that the timetable may be updated until the beginning of the course and even after that if something unforeseen happens.

Before you can begin your studies, there are three things you need to do


1. Get a login for the student portal (Swedish: Studentportalen)

If you are an international student you will receive your User ID upon arrival at Mid Sweden University.
This is your most important tool during your studies at Mid Sweden University. Here, you will find information about courses, study material etc. This is also where you register for each course. All of this can be found at www.miun.se/admitted.

Please note:
If you have studied at Mid Sweden University before, you will keep the same student login and user id.

2. Read through the current course syllabus

In the course syllabus, there is information about the course literature and other important things about the course for both teachers and students.

3. Register for the course

You must register for all of the courses you want to take during the semester. You do this in the Student Portal by clicking on the link “My Studies”, and then “Register on course”. You can register no earlier than two working days before the beginning of the course. It is important that you register for each course.

The course is delivered in English

There is one obligatory campus meeting in Östersund and all students are obliged to attend it! It is in week 21 (25th - 27th of May, 2018).


Purpose of the course
The course aims to identify and evaluate the current development and research work in training science focused on selected sports. Furthermore, the course aims at critically analyze different types of training modalities based on scientific evidence.

Learning goals:
After the course the student should be able to:
- Search and critically review scientific articles in training science
- Summarize and describe different exercise models/types that have a scientifically proved to increase the athletic performance.
- Explain the different pros and cons of different training modalities and their effect from a physiological and / or a biomechanical perspective.
- Design a scientific based training model and training plans

Examination is done through an individual work. This work should be presented in two steps:
Part 1
1) submitted as a written individual assignment (5hp)

Part 2
2) presented in a seminar (2.5hp)

All written tasks have to be written in English!
