A warm welcome to the course Sport Science Ba (A), Science and Practice in Ski Sports, 7,5 credits and as a student at Mid Sweden University.
The goal of this course is to provide learning experiences that will lead to the
development of basic skills and knowledge in the selected skiing sports (cross country skiing, biathlon and alpine skiing).
We also wish to show how skiing sports can be used to increase participation and physical activity levels.

We are starting the course with a mandatory meeting tuesday the 23rd of January 10.30-12.00 in the Kinesiology room, D312 in house D at Campus Östersund.
Four weeks before the beginning of the course you will get access to your schedule www.miun.se/schemasok. Please note that the timetable may be updated until the beginning of the course and even after that if something unforeseen happens.
Before you can begin your studies, there are three things you need to do
1. Get a login for the student portal (Swedish: Studentportalen)
If you are an international student you will receive your User ID upon arrival at Mid Sweden University.
This is your most important tool during your studies at Mid Sweden University. Here, you will find information about courses, study material etc. This is also where you register for each course. All of this can be found at www.miun.se/admitted.
If you have studied at Mid Sweden University before, you will keep the same student login and user id.
2. Read through the current course syllabus
In the course syllabus, there is information about the course literature and other important things about the course for both teachers and students.
3. Register for the course
You must register for all of the courses you want to take during the semester. You do this in the Student Portal by clicking on the link “My Studies”, and then “Register on course”. You can register no earlier than two working days before the beginning of the course. It is important that you register for each course.
The course have both teoretical and practical parts were some meetings are mandatory (see the schedule for exact dates).
The course consists of two moments:
Moment 1 (4 hp)
- Practical use of equipment and skill acquisition in the selected sports: crosscountry
skiing, biathlon and alpine skiing
- Practical knowledge and training of technical aspects in the selected sports
- Group coaching, development and mini-competitions
- Practical development of different physical performance components
Moment 2 (3,5 hp)
- Understanding the use of skiing sports for physical activity and health
- Theoretical knowledge in the selected sports
- Needs analysis in the selected sports
- History and organization of the sports, race formats, rules and safety
- Racing strategies and tactics for competing in the selected sports

In order to borrow at Mid Sweden University you need a library account. You get a library account when you activate your student portal login, register to a course and approve of the library lending rules. It takes about an hour after your activation before the library account is made. Use your student portal login to borrow and reserve books and to access the services of the library from home.
