Description of the department
We conduct research and education in physics, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, mathematics, industrial design engineering and didactics in mathematics and science education. We offer unique and world-leading research within the FSCN Research Centre and Sports Tech Research Centre.

Fiber Science and Communication Network (FSCN) is an interdisciplinary Research Centre at Mid Sweden University. FSCN conducts research that creates new applications and business opportunities for materials based on sustainable forest feedstock.

Job description
Research (90-100%) in the field of chemical pulp and the Emission Free Pulping project. Teaching and other administrative tasks (0-10%) may be included, when necessary.

The research project is within FSCN and the focus is on the field of chemical pulp and process development for new methods to manufacture fibres and by-products with high yield and without incinerating biomass (Emission Free Pulping, EFP). The position is located at Mid Sweden University in Sundsvall, but occasionally the research will be carried out in collaboration with companies such as Nouryon, Valmet and RISE, so travel may occur.

EFP is a 5-year research program led by RISE and VTT (Finland) and aims to significantly reduce the combustion of biomass and to increase the product yield from wood from about 50% to at least 70%. The program is estimated to have a budget of approximately EUR 15 million over the next five years.
