Uppdragsbeskrivning

This thesis aims at building upon an open WebXR-based virtual 3D marketplace – and specifically allowing dynamically loaded “apps” to work together at the same time with 3D maps/cityscapes as well as productivity- and creativity suites.

High level description
Today’s smartphones work quite similarly as to when smartphones first came to market decades ago; the apps have very limited collaboration between each other – other than sharing of simple text/images via one app at a time.
A new platform is on the horizon though – that of Mixed Reality (XR) headsets – i.e. Virtual/Augmented Reality. Facebook is pushing to be a foundation for a Metaverse, while Apple is expanding their ecosystem to include an augmented experience within the future’s autonomous cars.

Who are we looking for?
Bachelor/Master of Science (B/M.Sc.) in Computer Science/Engineering student(s) with practical experience in ReactJS/PWA development and an interest in Virtual Reality, WebXR and 3D development.

Project description
Get acquainted with open WebXR, ReactJS, WebRTC, Three.js, NodeJS development. Design and develop the dynamic loading of existing HTML5/Three.js apps. Design and develop an app-collaboration framework where multiple dynamic apps can be loaded into different predefined 3D environments and interacted with at the same time (in contrast to the flat one-at-a-time experience we are accustomed to on smartphones today).
