During the summer, CER has had the opportunity to strengthen its accounting and auditing area with the civil engineering student Hanan Shaban, who will be involved in two projects within the prioritized research area "Accounting and auditing transformation".

Tell me a little more about yourself – who are you?
My name is Hanan Shaban and I recently turned 20. I was born in Helsingborg but grew up in Umeå, where I studied the science program at Minervagymnasium. I am currently studying the Master of Science (MSc) in Industrial Economics here at Mid Sweden University. I have a great interest in both mathematics and economics, so this program was a perfect combination of my two favorite subjects.

What does your internship at CER mean?
For me, the internship is about learning as much as possible. I have chosen to spend the entire summer developing and challenging myself by gaining insight into a research area that is completely new to me. So far, I have been working with tasks I have never encountered before, which makes it both challenging and very fun! It really feels like I am growing a lot, both in terms of knowledge and personally.

How did you become interested in this field?
I wanted to do something meaningful this summer. Since I was 13 years old, I have had various summer jobs in several industries, but this year I wanted to find something that would contribute to my future development.

When I started looking for an internship in the field of civil engineering, I was first drawn to some kind of internship, but later in my search I was drawn more towards research. On the Mid Sweden University website, I found the project "Accounting and Auditing Transformation" and immediately became curious, especially the part about the digital transformation of the auditing industry. It felt like a perfect match with my education and interests.

During my internship, I have been able to participate in everything from master's thesis seminars to reading and analyzing annual reports and audit reports. It is incredibly rewarding!

What are your plans after your stay here at CER?
I want to take all the experiences from the internship with me into my studies and continue to develop in the field. I hope that I will have the opportunity to continue to be a part of the work during the year, and maybe even come back next summer.

The internship has really opened new doors for me, and I am even thinking about writing my master's thesis in some of the things I have worked on here. But that is still a while away, so we will see.
