Kick‑off meeting for Jubilee doctoral students in Stockholm
In the first week of November, the Knowledge Foundation invited to a "kick off" for a five-year anniversary project, as well as one of the foundation's largest investments to date.
The kick-off meeting in Stockholm, which was opened by the Knowledge Foundation's CEO Eva Schelin, gathered 90 participants (doctoral students and their supervisors, as well as representatives from the Knowledge Foundation and invited speakers). The idea is to create a national network – a unique platform for knowledge exchange – that links together 22 higher education institutions and 15 research fields.
Participating higher education institutions have received funding from the Knowledge Foundation for two projects each. One of the initiatives at Mid Sweden University concerns the CER project "Lifelong learning as a strategic resource for organizational development in an increasingly digitalized financial sector" and at the kick-off meeting, doctoral student Mikaela Backlund and main supervisor Peter Öhman participated. The second project ("Next generation fabrication of refractory metals using artificial intelligence and additive manufacturing") was represented by PhD student Sarath Karumudi and main supervisor Lars-Erik Rännar.
During the days in Stockholm, Mikaela Backlund had time to listen to inspiring lectures, participate in workshops and make contacts with doctoral students from other universities. The next meeting will take place in Halmstad in the spring of 2026.
