Faces of War
In October 2024, an experiment was conducted in RCR's simulation lab as part of the project "Human, Dimensions, and Resilience: New Ways to Study Risk Communication, Responsibility, and Preparedness." In the study, the lab was transformed into a photo exhibition on opening night, an exhibition under threat due to the photographs depictions of war in a contested region.

When research participants climb the stairs to the simulation lab to see Mariam Nygaard and Kavron Almadi’s exhibition ‘Faces of War’, they are met by gallery employees and strict entry procedures. Since Nygaard's photos have been internationally recognized, the regime in Tavriskar has become aware of her connection to Kavron Almadi and she has repeatedly received threats. Before the opening there have also been threats, but since Nygaard will not attend the gallery has chosen to proceed with the exhibition as planned. How do visitors reason in light of an event receiving threats – both before the visit and once they are there?
The purpose of the experiment was to gain knowledge about how people absorb communication and what factors motivate action, when exposed to different types of crises.
