The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has mandated the OECD to develop measurement indicators to evaluate and develop future events. To help, the OECD brings together a group of experts from all over the world. There are two people from the Nordic countries, one of whom is Robert Pettersson, event researcher and business director at ETOUR Research Centre at Mid Sweden University.

- It’s fun to get the question. Östersund and Jämtland are a perfect “event lab” with all their events, so we have learned a lot over the years, says Robert Pettersson.

For more than 20 years, Robert and his colleagues at ETOUR have studied events in Jämtland and elsewhere in the world and are now given the opportunity to design the indicators proposed for future World Championships and Olympic Games.

- These are indicators of both economic, social and environmental dimensions. Sweden has a good reputation as an event organiser, and Swedish event research has come a long way, not least when it comes to the usefulness and implementation of research," says Robert Pettersson.

Three digital meetings have been held during the autumn, and now OECD officials are working to compile the results. In the spring, the panel of experts will meet again.
