Axel Eriksson was solemnly conferred the title of Doctor of Tourism Studies.

During the annual academic ceremony, successes in research and education are recognized and celebrated. Honorary doctors and doctors are conferred, new professors are inaugurated and scientific and pedagogical prizes are awarded.

This year, ETOUR researcher Axel Eriksson, who was conferred during the ceremony, was recognized. In December last year, Axel successfully defended his doctoral thesis "Mechanisms Behind Acceptance of Environmental Impacts from Tourism Events". Since then, Axel can call himself a doctor of tourism studies.

Axel's thesis was about the acceptance of imprints in nature caused by tourism. In his research, he investigated what makes people and organizations accept events such as trail marathons and orienteering, even though they cause great damage to nature. To gain an understanding of this, Axel interviewed local residents, organizers, authorities and event participants, among others.

The academic ceremony concluded with a banquet at Gamla Teatern, where invited and relatives had the opportunity to celebrate together with the new doctors and honorary doctors. There was a festive dinner, entertainment and speeches. The toastmaster for the evening was ETOUR's executive director Robert Pettersson.

Congratulations Axel and good luck!
