Mid Sweden University participates in an international project on water purification

Bruno Medronho, University of Algarve and visiting professor at Mid Sweden University, FSCN Research Centre, has received funding for a PhD student and studies on purification of seawater from microplastics.

The funder is the Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (FCT), the Portuguese equivalent of the Swedish Research Council.

The project also involves Dr. Luís Alves from the University of Coimbra and Professor Magnus Norgren Mid Sweden University. During the project, the PhD student Solange Magalhães, will spend some time in Sundsvall to study the ability of biopolymers to capture and remove microplastics together with Magnus Norgren and his colleagues in the research group of Surface and Colloid Engineering at FSCN research centre.

Her supervisor is Prof. Maria Graça Rasteiro, from the Chemical Process Engineering and Forest Products Research Centre - CIEPQPF, University of Coimbra.
