New energy storage technologies will be necessary to utilize when the energy storage demand is expected to increase fivefold until year 2030. A review of the post-lithium emerging technologies is presented and the importance of developing energy storage solutions that are both of low-cost and low resources demanding is emphasized. It’s projected that the next generation technologies must therefore be made from abundance elements such as sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, and aluminum. The last one will be addressed in this talk as being one of the research areas of Mid Sweden University’s KM2 research group.
