EPNOE 2025 stands for the European Polysaccharide Network of Excellence Conference and is the largest international conference in this research field. The focus is on how nature’s building blocks, such as cellulose, starch, and other polysaccharides, can be used to develop sustainable materials and solutions for the industries and societies of the future.

“Interest in bio-based and renewable materials has never been greater. We bring together leading researchers and actors from both academia and industry. Sundsvall will become a hub for discussion and innovation around bio-based materials that can replace fossil products,” says Professor Magnus Norgren, chair of the conference and professor at Mid Sweden University’s FSCN Research Center.

“Hosting EPNOE 2025 also shows that we are world-leading in this type of research and is a recognition of the FSCN Research Center at Mid Sweden University, where this research is conducted,” continues Magnus Norgren.

The conference program includes over 150 scientific presentations, poster exhibitions, and panel discussions, featuring several internationally recognized researchers in the field. This year, the conference also introduces a new track, the BioEconomy Innovation Track, which will serve as a meeting place for research and industry, focusing on translating research advances into products that reach the market and society at large.

“The choice of Sweden and Sundsvall to host EPNOE 2025 is strategic. Mid Sweden University is a leader in research on cellulose and bio-based materials, and the conference brings together prominent speakers and international perspectives. The Bioeconomy Innovation Track, with strong industry participation, will also provide new ideas for turning research into real products,” says Pedro Fardim, President of the EPNOE Association, an interdisciplinary European collaboration aimed at promoting research, education, and innovation in polysaccharide-based materials.

The conference is held every two years, and this is the first time it is taking place in Sweden.
