"For Mid Sweden University, the funding means that we strengthen our position in materials and energy research and create even better conditions for collaboration with the business community. This is crucial both for the relevance of the research and for our results to be of practical use," says Jonas Örtegren, associate professor at Mid Sweden University.

The Knowledge Foundation is investing SEK 64 million in seven new assistant professorships in Sweden. The initiative aims to strengthen the higher education institutions' opportunities to attract young, prominent researchers and at the same time build strong research and educational environments with a long-term effect.

One of the projects that has been granted funding is AFESA – Aluminium alloys and functionalisation of aluminium for energy storage applications. The project is awarded SEK 9,250,276, and the project manager at Mid Sweden University is Jonas Örtegren. The project focuses on developing new materials and methods based on aluminum alloys for future energy storage. The research has the potential to contribute to more sustainable and efficient solutions in the energy field, with a clear link to industrial needs and applications.

"This grant gives us a very important opportunity to build a long-term research environment in a strategically important area. Through the combination of an associate senior lecturer and a doctoral student, we can both develop new knowledge and secure the supply of skills in the long term," says Jonas Örtegren.

The investment from the Knowledge Foundation is part of their long-term work to strengthen Swedish research and education at higher education institutions with strong links to the business community.
