Stefan Roos and colleagues
Today, Stefan Roos "nailed" his doctoral thesis titled "Electron beam powder bed processing of stainless steels". The dissertation will take place on site in Östersund on 17 October.
Additive manufacturing is on the rise. One of the technologies for additive manufacturing is Electron beam powder bed fusion, which uses an electron beam to melt metal powder into finished components. Today, the technology more or less completely lacks process parameters for stainless steels, thus limiting the possibility of applications, despite the fact that the material is so widely used.
Stefan Roos' thesis investigates the possibility of processing stainless steel and what the resulting material properties will be. The results also show what the effects on the final material will be when using different process parameters. Finally, a new method for obtaining information about the electron beam's energy distribution is shown, something that has a major impact on the result of the process.
