Louisa Nilsson successfully defended her licentiate thesis
Louisa Nilsson, doctoral student in Mechanical Engineering, defended her thesis "Opportunities for Enhancing Durability and Environmental Sustainability in Shell Jackets" on Thursday.
Main supervisors were Professor of Mechanical Engineering Mikael Bäckström and opponent Professor Clemens Thornquist, University of Borås.
Louisa Nilssons has researched the functionality of shell jackets over time and concludes in her thesis that many shell jackets still have a lot left to give when they are discarded by their first user. In the Sports Tech Research Centre's materials lab, she has looked at the garments' waterproofness, water repellency, air permeability and breathability, among other things. She has also compiled how functionality changes over time and how the price decreases over time. The purpose of the study is to ultimately reduce consumption.
