STC Research Centre invited Tomas Lennvall from Epiroc to hold a presentation. Tomas will present Epiroc, one of the world’s leading companies in mining solutions for both surface and underground mining. His presentation will focus on underground mining operations, showcasing the different types of machines and equipment Epiroc provides for these challenging environments. We’ll delve into some of the technical intricacies and explore the challenges we face underground, with a special focus on networking and connectivity. Discover how Epiroc tackle these issues today and what future challenges lie ahead.

Tomas Lennvall received his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from Mälardalen University (Mälardalen University), Sweden in 2000 and 2005, respectively. He is currently working as a System Architect for Network and Connectivity at Epiroc. Tomas has more than 15 years of experience working with industrial communication and embedded systems at Epiroc and ABB. After ABB he worked with critical IoT systems at the RISE SICS Västerås research institute and Örebro University as a Senior Lecturer. At ABB he was mainly focusing on strategy, project management, wireless communication, and embedded real-time systems for industrial automation. AT RISE he focused on bringing critical IoT and Cloud services to use for critical society functions, and at Örebro University he was working as an industrial liaison. Tomas has also participated in several standardization activities related to wireless communication for the automation industry: WirelessHART, ISA100.11a, and PNO WSAN (Wireless Actuator and Sensor Networks). He holds more than 20 patents in the area of industrial wireless communication and is the author or co-author of more than 20 scientific publications in refereed international flora.
