Meet Maziyar – New PhD‑student specializing in advanced battery technologies

What is your background?

I hold a Master's degree in Power Electrical Engineering from Iran, where I specialized in power electrical converters. Prior to joining Mid Sweden University, I gained seven years of professional experience working in an electricity company in Iran. During this time, I honed my skills and deepened my knowledge in the field of electrical engineering, focusing on practical applications and advancements in power systems.

How come you chose Mid Sweden University?

Upon receiving an acceptance from Mid Sweden University, I had several other offers from prestigious institutions in New Zealand, Australia, Canada, Italy, and the USA. My decision to join Mid Sweden University was driven by several key factors. Scandinavian universities are renowned globally for their academic excellence and innovative research. Additionally, I was previously studying in the USA but chose to leave to join a research group at Mid Sweden University. Here, I have the unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge research related to batteries and electric vehicles—an area where Sweden is a global pioneer. The university’s strong emphasis on sustainable technologies and its leadership in electric vehicle research made it an ideal choice for my PhD studies.

What is going to be your focus during your PhD studies?

During my PhD studies, my primary focus will be on the development and optimization of advanced battery technologies and electric vehicles. This research is crucial as the world increasingly shifts towards sustainable energy solutions and green technologies. By working on these projects, I aim to contribute to the advancement of efficient, high-performance batteries and innovative electric vehicle systems. My goal is to develop technologies that can support the global transition to sustainable energy, reduce carbon emissions, and promote environmental conservation.

How has your time in Sundsvall been so far?

My time in Sundsvall has been incredibly enriching and enjoyable. Sundsvall, with its picturesque nature and vibrant community, has provided a perfect setting for both academic and personal growth. The city's unique blend of natural beauty and cultural heritage has allowed me to immerse myself in a new culture and lifestyle. The welcoming atmosphere and the supportive environment at Mid Sweden University have made my transition smooth and pleasant.
