Collaboration to retain the IT talents of the future
How can education and industry work together to secure the future IT competence in Västernorrland? This was one of the main questions discussed when Mid Sweden University participated in the regional strategy meeting TechTalent 2025 in Härnösand, organized by Bron Innovation.
The event brought together employers, educational institutions, and public organizations to discuss how the region can become better at attracting, developing, and retaining IT talents.
Representing Mid Sweden University was Stefan Forsström, Programme Director for the Civil engineering program for Computer Engineering, who highlighted several opportunities for collaboration between the university and the business sector.
– It’s very valuable for us to be here and meet both companies and other educational actors. We gain important input and at the same time get the chance to showcase the opportunities we can offer, says Stefan Forsström.
He particularly emphasized Branschsamverkan IT – an industry network for companies interested in collaborating with Mid Sweden University’s programmes in computer engineering and IT. One concrete form of collaboration is to offer thesis projects or internships, where students get the chance to work on real assignments from companies.
Around 20 companies participated in the event in Härnösand, including Bolagsverket, Nordiska, Sogeti, and Knightec, who shared their successful experiences in talent development and collaboration.
– Collaboration is key if we, as a region, are to meet the growing demand for IT competence. Creating arenas where education and business can meet is crucial for securing the skills of the future, says Stefan Forsström.
