Students develop AI solutions on real‑world assignments from the business world
Mid Sweden University's students work with real assignments from companies as part of their studies. Several projects are currently underway in which artificial intelligence plays a central role, including an AI-based camera system to increase safety in industry, in collaboration with SSG.
During the week, students from various technical programmes at Mid Sweden University have started working on new sharp projects together with companies and organisations. The aim is to allow students to test their knowledge in real-life situations and contribute to technological development in the region's business community.
In one of the projects, Mid Sweden University collaborates with SSG on the development of a mobile AI computer vision for industrial environments. The goal is to improve safety work by using camera and image analysis that can detect risky situations in real time.
The project group consists of Mehari Weldab (Computer Engineering), Filip Norgren (Master of Science in Computer Engineering), Alfred Boman (Master of Science in Computer Engineering), Viktor Vedin (Master of Science in Industrial Engineering and Management) and Erik Wahlberg (Master of Science in Electrical Engineering). Supervisor is Rikard Hamrin, research engineer at Mid Sweden University.
"This is a perfect example of how we as students get to work with real problems that companies actually want to solve. AI is an area where development is fast, and to be able to do something practical that can be used in industry feels both motivating and educational," says Filip Norgren, student at the Master of Science Programme in Computer Science.
Supervisor Rikard Hamrin believes that the link between education and business is becoming increasingly important, especially in technical areas where skills are in demand.
- SIMS gives students a valuable insight into working life. Here, our interdisciplinary teams get to deal with sharp innovation challenges directly from the business world. By developing working prototypes, they gain both practical experience and the opportunity to showcase their skills to potential employers. It's an unbeatable combination of education and career preparation.
