Shirin Rafiei successfully defended her doctoral thesis
We are proud to announce that Shirin Rafiei has successfully defended her doctoral thesis in Computer Engineering, titled "Remote Controlled 3D Positioning in Augmented Telepresence: User and Quality of Experience Aspects", at Mid Sweden University.
The dissertation took place with Professor Markus Fiedler, Blekinge Institute of Technology, as opponent. The examining committee included Associate Professor Katrien Demoor, NTNU, Norway, Professor Kristen Snyder, Mid Sweden University, and Associate Professor Niall Murray, Technological University of the Shannon, Ireland.
In her research, Shirin explores how user experiences in remote-controlled systems can be better understood and evaluated, especially in industrial contexts such as mining and building construction. It addresses the challenges faced by operators when interacting with remote video-based systems that lack natural depth signals, impacting performance and spatial awareness.
Her doctoral journey was supervised by Professor Mårten Sjöström, Mid Sweden University, Professor Kjell Brunnström, Mid Sweden University and Dr. Jonas Andersson, RISE.
We congratulate Dr. Shirin Rafiei to her new title and wish her the best of luck!
