Mohammadreza holds a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering and a master’s in artificial intelligence. Before starting the PhD, he worked as an AI engineer, building intelligent systems for practical, real-world applications.

A passion for visual AI

- I’ve always been drawn to visual AI, how machines interpret the world and how we can use that to enhance how people connect remotely. The idea of contributing to immersive tech that can make a difference in people’s lives was a strong motivation toward doing a PhD, says Mohammadreza.

The decision to join Mid Sweden University was strongly influenced by the Realistic 3D research group.

- They’re doing some really exciting work in visual media and immersive systems, and the chance to be part of that environment felt like the right move, says Mohammadreza.

Research focused on remote interaction

In his PhD-studies Mohammadreza will focus on AI-driven visual tools designed to improve presence and interaction in immersive and augmented reality contexts.

It’s about pushing the boundaries of how people can communicate and collaborate over distance, says Mohammadreza.

A positive start and international collaboration

As part of the IMMERSE- project, Mohammadreza and the Realistic 3D research group cooperates with the University of Oulu in Finland.

- We recently visited the University of Oulu, and I was genuinely impressed. Their lab setup is excellent, and the discussions with their researchers were inspiring. I’m really looking forward to working with them more closely through the IMMERSE-project, he says.

So far, Mohammadreza’s experience at Mid Sweden University has been very encouraging.

- I’m genuinely excited to be part of a project that blends advanced tech with real-world impact, especially in places where better remote interaction can make a big difference. The research team is super supportive, the environment is collaborative, and there’s a lot of freedom to explore ideas. Being part of a research group like this definitely makes the work more rewarding, Mohammadreza summarizes.

About IMMERSE: The project aims to transform remote operations with technologies for augmented and immersive experiences, targeting the Aurora region's challenges and skills shortages. Its goal is to improve the access and deployment of specialized expertise in remote areas, with a focus on sustainability and inclusivity.
