SCA and Mid Sweden University discussed AI in industry at Good Tech Conference
How can AI contribute to a more efficient and sustainable industry? At the Good Tech Conference, Henrik Bengtsson from SCA and Sebastian Bader from Mid Sweden University talked about how AI and data analytics can improve production and maintenance.
In modern industry, large amounts of data are collected from thousands of measuring points, around the clock. With the help of AI and advanced data analysis, the information can be used to control and optimize production.
For Henrik Bengtsson, the development is not about introducing AI for the sake of technology, but about creating the conditions for a long-term sustainable industry.
"Growing forests make the green transition possible. With intelligent control, we can develop the industry and at the same time work towards our sustainability goals. It's about building an ability to develop the business over time, while at the same time the processes remain stable and the technology can develop in line with the outside world," says Henrik Bengtsson.
Sebastian Bader highlighted the challenges of using AI to improve industrial maintenance. A functioning AI model is not an end in itself – what is important is that the technology leads to better decisions in practice.
"The goal is not just a good AI model, but a better maintenance decision. One challenge is that there is often limited data on actual faults. The models also need to work on different machines, where several sources of fault can interact," says Sebastian Bader.
By combining industry experience with research and advanced data analysis, there are opportunities to develop solutions that work in practice. This can help to detect problems earlier, improve maintenance and create a more efficient and stable production.
