Emin Zerman delivers associate professor lecture on human‑centred visual technologies
Emin Zerman has delivered his associate professor lecture, “Designing Visual Technologies for Human Experience,” at Mid Sweden University. He shared his academic journey from Türkiye to France, Ireland, and Sweden before presenting his research on human-centred visual technologies.
In his introduction, Zerman reflected on his academic journey across four countries and the experiences that have shaped his career as a researcher.
The lecture then turned to his research into how people see and understand the world, and how digital technologies increasingly influence that experience. Modern visual systems do more than display images: they can reconstruct environments, create immersive experiences, visualize complex data and combine information from different sources.
Starting with visual quality and human perception, Zerman presented research spanning immersive imaging, visualization and interactive systems. He also discussed future opportunities in immersive analytics and multimodal artificial intelligence, highlighting the importance of designing and evaluating these technologies from a human-centred perspective.
For Zerman, becoming a associate professor marks a natural continuation of his academic work and an opportunity to contribute further to the research environment at Mid Sweden University and the international visual computing community.
- I see this as a natural continuation of my academic work, with a stronger focus on contributing to the research environment at Mid Sweden University and to the international community around visual computing, he says.
Congratulations to Emin Zerman on this milestone! We wish him all the best with his continued research at Mid Sweden University.
