How do we build a secure and reliable digital future?
AI creates new opportunities, but also new risks. At Good Tech Conference, participants discussed how we can use technology responsibly and build more secure digital systems. Kyi Thar, a researcher at Mid Sweden University's STC Research Centre, highlighted the importance of transparent AI models.
AI and connected services are transforming both industry and society. However, rapid technological development also brings challenges related to cybersecurity, accountability and trustworthiness. How can we protect critical systems and ensure that AI is used safely and responsibly?
These were some of the questions discussed during the session Secure connectivity in tomorrow’s digital world at Good Tech Conference, featuring cybersecurity specialist Christian Holmstedt from Telia Cygate and researcher Kyi Thar from STC Research Centre at Mid Sweden University.
AI development cannot be stopped
Christian Holmstedt described how AI development has opened Pandora’s box. The development cannot be stopped, he argued, which means the focus needs to be on how the technology is used.
The challenge is to harness the opportunities offered by AI while ensuring that organisations understand the risks and take responsibility for how the technology is implemented and used. Cybersecurity is therefore a central part of the digital transformation.
Transparency makes AI easier to monitor
Kyi Thar, a researcher at STC Research Centre, continued the discussion on secure and trustworthy AI. He highlighted the importance of Trustworthy AI and transparent AI models, where insight into how models work can make them easier to monitor.
Transparency and the ability to monitor AI systems' behaviour are important elements in developing more trustworthy solutions. This is particularly relevant in connected systems and environments where technology needs to operate securely even when conditions change.
Kyi Thar’s research is part of the project TRUST – Enhancing Wireless Communication & Sensing with Secure, Resilient, and Trustworthy Solutions. The project is carried out in collaboration with the University of Vaasa and is funded with support from Interreg Aurora.
Collaboration for a safer digital transformation
Good Tech Conference brings together companies, researchers and other stakeholders to exchange experiences and discuss the opportunities and challenges of technology. Mid Sweden University's STC Research Centre participates as a conference partner, contributing several sessions and showcasing research projects in the conference Expo.
Questions surrounding cybersecurity and trustworthy AI demonstrate the importance of collaboration between academia and industry in addressing the challenges of digital development and creating solutions that society can trust.
