From exchange student to research engineer at ResilientEdge
After two exchange periods at Mid Sweden University, Alessandro De Martini returns as a research engineer in the ResilientEdge project. Now he wants to combine AI and infrastructure to strengthen companies' cybersecurity and robustness.
After two previous stays as an exchange student at Mid Sweden University, the Italian engineer is now back - this time as a research engineer in the ResilientEdge project.
With a master's degree in Digital Enterprise Technology Engineering from Brescia in Italy and experience from Mid Sweden University both as an Erasmus student in the autumn of 2024 and as a degree project student in the autumn of 2025, he already has a strong connection to the university.
- I first applied for a doctoral position at Mid Sweden University. Even though I didn't get that position, my former supervisor Stefan Forsström instead offered me a position as a research engineer, which I'm very happy about, says Alessandro.
The driving force behind the choice to work with ResilientEdge is a great interest in technology and a willingness to solve complex problems.
- I'm a curious person who likes challenges. I often see problem solving as a game where the goal is to find the best solution. The combination of infrastructure and AI immediately caught my interest.
Right now, the project group is working with interviews with companies to map their needs and challenges. The focus is on understanding how AI can be used to strengthen cybersecurity, energy efficiency, and resilience in digital infrastructure.
- What I'm most looking forward to is the implementation phase, when we get to put the ideas into practice and work with companies to find solutions that make their systems more robust and efficient.
