Recently, international students gathered at Mid Sweden University in Grönborg for an inspirational session on the swedish labour market and the path to work after their studies. During the morning, the participants took part in a digital lecture by Hela Galvis from Switch to Sweden, followed by coffee and discussions.

The lecture focused on how the Swedish labour market works, what skills are in demand and what opportunities exist for international students who want to stay and work in Sweden after graduation. The participants also took part in twelve concrete steps to build a career in Sweden as well as examples from international professionals who have established themselves in the labor market.

- It was a very valuable and rewarding day. I have definitely gained a better understanding of how the swedish labor market works, what skills are in demand and what the work culture looks like here. At the same time, it feels important that we as international students can also contribute with new perspectives and experiences, said Peter Zsoldos, international master's student.

The goal of the meeting was to give the students a greater understanding of working life in Sweden and help them start designing a personal action plan for the future.

The initiative is part of the project "International excellence for regional growth in Västernorrland", which runs between May 2025 and June 2026. The project will create new paths from education to work by combining international master's programmes with trainee programmes at regional companies.

More information

The project is funded by Tillväxtverket and Region Västernorrland. Bron Innovation is the project owner and Mid Sweden University is the project party.

In addition to inspirational lectures, students are offered, among other things, career programs, mentor meetings, study visits and networking opportunities with employers in the region. The aim is to strengthen the link between international students and the regional labour market – and at the same time contribute to the supply of skills in Västernorrland.
