Yi‑Hsin Li receives award for outstanding research in visual data

- I am very honored and grateful to receive this award. My time at Mid Sweden University has provided me with an excellent environment to develop my research, with supportive colleagues and many opportunities to explore new ideas. I sincerely appreciate the support and encouragement I have received throughout my doctoral studies, and I am very happy to see this work recognized in this way, says Yi-Hsin Li.

The award recognizes her research on efficient and scalable representations for image-based data with high-quality visual rendering, including images, video and 3D models.

According to the jury's motivation, the methods developed by Yi-Hsin Li enable applications that were previously not feasible, including real-time training, compact representations and scalable modelling of complex scenes.

Double PhD awarded the highest possible grade

Yi-Hsin Li's research is presented in a doctoral thesis completed as part of a double PhD degree at Mid Sweden University and the Technische Universität Berlin. The thesis received the highest possible grade, distinction, from a unanimous examination committee.

The Bureanska Foundation Scientific Award is intended to recognise outstanding scientific achievements across Mid Sweden University’s various subject areas. The award will be presented at the University’s Academic Ceremony this autumn.

More Bureanska Foundation award recipients

Two additional awards will also be presented as part of the Bureanska Foundation awards in 2026. Osvald Wiklander receives an award of 15 000 SEK for the best doctoral thesis, while Alice Morein receives the award of 5 000 SEK for the best bachelor's thesis.

The Bureanska Association was founded in the early 1990s with the aim of recognizing and rewarding outstanding academic work. In the spring of 2011, the association donated its capital to Mid Sweden University, and the awards have since been presented by the University through the Bureanska Foundation.
