ResilientEdge research presented at international IoT conference in Rome

Research connected to the ResilientEdge project was presented at IEEE MetroInd4.0&IoT in Rome. Three researchers with connections to Mid Sweden University contributed work on post-quantum cryptography, energy-efficient AI, and IoT data analysis.

At the IEEE MetroInd4.0&IoT conference, hosted by Università Campus Bio-Medico di Roma, three research contributions connected to the ResilientEdge project were presented. The contributions came from Alessandro De Martini, as well as former international Mid Sweden University students Riccardo Aldrovandi and Arnab Mukhopadhyay.

Alessandro De Martini presented “Energy-Efficient Federated Learning from Sensor Data on Resource-Constrained IoT Devices.” The work focuses on how federated machine learning can be used efficiently on resource-constrained IoT devices.

- The conference was a great opportunity to discuss how we can combine machine learning with IoT devices that have limited resources. Energy efficiency is crucial if the technology is to be deployed at scale, says Alessandro De Martini.

Riccardo Aldrovandi presented “Evaluating Post-Quantum TLS Performance for the Internet of Things Using Raspberry Pi Devices,” which examines the performance of post-quantum cryptography in IoT environments using Raspberry Pi devices.

Arnab Mukhopadhyay presented “Exploring Geometry-Aware Pattern Discovery Using Matrix Profile on Multivariate IoT Data,” focusing on methods for discovering patterns in multivariate IoT data.

The conference provided an opportunity to discuss the research findings with the international research community and receive feedback on the continued work within ResilientEdge.

- The technical discussions around IoT architectures, metrology, and edge reliability provided valuable perspectives that we can bring into the continued work within ResilientEdge, says Alessandro De Martini.

The discussions at the conference therefore contribute new perspectives to the continued development of ResilientEdge at the STC Research Centre.
