Hyperlocal media and their democratic significance
Not long ago, traditional media, also known as legacy media, were the only ones that produced journalism. This project takes a closer look at the so-called “hyperlocals”–independent media companies that cover a well-defined area and to a large extent publish their news digitally.
The research project consists of five parts:
- Mapping of hyperlocal media in Sweden
- Qualitative study of hyperlocal entrepreneurial roles
- Quantitative content analysis
- Focus group study of the audience
- Comparative study of hyperlocal media in Sweden, Finland and Russia
