Global conference focuses on the future of biodiversity
At the International Congress for Conservation Biology ICCB 2023 in Kigali/Rwanda, 23-27 July, Professor Volker Mauerhofer presented research on the UN Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF).
The GBF, adopted by 196 Parties in 2022, aims to reverse biodiversity loss by 2050 through global targets and concrete actions. Prof Mauerhofer highlighted the opportunities and challenges of implementing the GBF framework, using the example of the EU-funded ALPMEMA project, which is investigating factors for biodiversity conservation in alpine meadows.
Over 1000 people attended ICCB 2023, the largest global meeting to address conservation challenges and present the latest in conservation research and practice.
