At the AGORA seminar at the School of Management of the University de los Andes in Bogotá on 29 September, he highlighted the challenges of integrating the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and presented innovative strategies to balance socio-economic and environmental needs. He introduced the ALPMEMA project, which explores the sustainable management of alpine meadows and identifies synergies between tourism and nature conservation.

During the ISEE conference in Santa Marta on 27 October, Mauerhofer presented more details on the ALPMEMA project and how different forms of ownership affect the sustainable use of alpine meadows. The first results of the project focused on how tourism can act as a source of funding for biodiversity conservation for farmers managing hay meadows in alpine areas in Sweden, Austria and Germany.

Presentations show how ALPMEMA research contributes to the development of global sustainability solutions in practice.
