Alpmema – a new project with international collaboration
In April 2023, the ALPMEMA project was launched, which is coordinated by the Department of Natural Sciences, Design and Sustainable Development. For Mid Sweden University, this has meant, among other things, that we have been able to hire and welcome our new PhD student John Lind.
The project is a collaboration between Mid Sweden University, American University of Armenia, Armenia, Universität für Bodenkultur Wien, Austria, University of Copenhagen, Denmark and Universität Hohenheim in Germany.
Within the framework of the ALPMEMA project, John will focus his research on how to manage and use meadows in order to see what success factors there are in the conservation of these areas. In the EU, the number of hayfields in mountain areas such as the Alps and the Swedish mountains is decreasing. If the values associated with these meadows are to be preserved, we need to find methods that allow us to maintain them effectively.
