ELITE study
An international collaboration on genetics and endurance performance
The Swedish Winter Sports Research Centre is participating as a collaborating centre in the international ELITE Study, led by Stanford University, with Karolinska Institutet coordinating the Swedish arm of the collaboration. The study aims to identify genetic factors underlying exceptional physical performance in the world’s most elite endurance athletes.
The Swedish Winter Sports Research Centre is actively recruiting participants and collecting biological samples on behalf of our collaborators. The study includes saliva samples and questionnaire data covering variables such as VO₂max, health status, and training background.
Participation is simple, takes approximately 15 minutes, and can be completed entirely remotely. To be eligible, participants must have a lifetime best VO₂max of at least 55 mL/min/kg for women and 65 for men.
The ELITE Study is a growing international research initiative bringing together participants and researchers with an interest in human performance, genetics, and health.
