Geographies of Last Resort: The Territorial Restructuring of Swedish Social Assistance, 1986–2020
The PhD project examines long-term changes in social assistance recipiency and duration, as well as geographical clustering and interdependence between Swedish municipalities from 1986 to 2020.
The project draws on register data and uses spatial statistical methods to analyse developments across Swedish municipalities and the relationships between them. It focuses on how changes in recipiency and duration form geographical patterns. These patterns are examined in relation to changes in labour markets and the welfare state.
