Hyperlocal media and their democratic significance

Not long ago, traditional media, also known as legacy media, were the only ones that produced journalism. This project takes a closer look at the so-called “hyperlocals”–independent media companies that cover a well-defined area and to a large extent publish their news digitally.

The research project consists of five parts:

  1. Mapping of hyperlocal media in Sweden
  2. Qualitative study of hyperlocal entrepreneurial roles
  3. Quantitative content analysis
  4. Focus group study of the audience
  5. Comparative study of hyperlocal media in Sweden, Finland and Russia
