Literature and Translation in the AI Epoch: Challenges and Agencies
This project will examine the increasing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in fields traditionally dominated by humans, focusing particularly on literary and artistic translation.
The project will explore the pressing question of whether human translators remain indispensable in these practices, especially as AI continues to replace human roles across various professions and activities globally. The project is driven by the need to understand the unique qualities of human agency in translation, emphasising its importance in fostering cross-border, cross-cultural and cross-disciplinary dialogue.
The research will draw on the unique experience of an international, interdisciplinary group of collaborators, all active in the areas of artistic and literary translation as theory and practice, as well as process and product. The project activities will take place in key Swedish cultural and educational venues both in Sweden and abroad, promoting, both through the work's thematic focus and its material contexts, international collaboration and pedagogical exchange.
