VEM ‑ Effective and efficient impact assessment in transport planning
The research project 'Effective and efficient impact assessment in transport planning' (VEM) is a transdisciplinary project.
The aim of the project is to develop a tool for the integration of cumulative effects in impact assessment in transport planning. The objectives of VEM are to:
a) develop a tool for the integration of cumulative effects in impact assessment, and
b) develop a model for identification and assessment of cumulative effects in impact assessments based on a systems analysis perspective.
The theoretical framework for the VEM project is based on i) research in impact assessment and cumulative effects and ii) a systems analytical perspective on cumulative effects. The transdisciplinary approach of the research project means that research problems and research questions are formulated in an interplay between knowledge and experiences from both practice and academia. Both qualitative and quantitative methods will be applied in the VEM project.
The results of the project are twofold; a tool for the integration of cumulative effects in impact assessment and a model for the i identification and assessment of cumulative effects in impact assessment of transport infrastructure. The application of the tool and model in impact assessment of plans and projects in transport infrastructure will improve the effectiveness of impact assessment compared with today.
