AMIR-Intervention (AMIN)
Being forced to flee one’s home country can place a significant strain on both body and mind. This project investigates whether a course about mental health can improve well-being among individuals...
The AMIR research team works with development and evaluation of methods for addressing, identifying, and intervening with mental health problems among individuals with a refugee background.
Since 2016, the team has worked on several projects to translate and adapt materials into several different languages for refugees from several different countries. We have evaluated methods that effectively identify common symptoms that can occur after people have been exposed to traumatic and difficult life events, as well as methods aimed at alleviating such symptoms.
Currently, we are running an EU project, funded by the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF). The project focuses on outreach to the target group, both by providing information about trauma-related symptoms and by offering the methods we have studied in our projects. We evaluate the impact of these activities, not only on mental health but also on integration outcomes.
The project will officially be launched in the autumn of 2025, and in addition to evaluating participation in the project, it includes three key research areas.
1. [CoRe] – Funded by the Swedish Research Council, this area involves the translation, adaptation, and evaluation of a method to reduce trauma-related symptoms.
2. [RooT] – A longitudinal study tracking symptom development and integration experiences over three years to examine whether changes in psychological symptoms can predict integration outcomes.
3. [AMIN] – An evaluation of a group-based intervention aiming to assess whether participation in a course about mental health can influence mental health outcomes.
