Visit to UiT – The Arctic University of Norway
In September 2026, Ekaterina Zmyvalova, researcher in law at Mid Sweden University, visited UiT, which is Norway's Arctic University in Tromsø. There she participated as second opponent at a dissertation in law with Adrian Nystø Mikkelsen.
Adrian Nystø Mikkelse's dissertation, Sámi Governance over Land Areas and Natural Resources: An Analysis of Governance Outside Finnmark, deals with Sámi and local rights to land and natural resources in traditional Sámi areas in Norway. The dissertation gave Ekaterina and the other participants the opportunity for academic exchange on issues related to Sámi rights, indigenous peoples and management of natural resources.
During the visit to Tromsø, Ekaterina also met researchers from the Sámi Centre at UiT. Together, they had the opportunity to discuss how networks and future collaborations could be developed between the Sámi legal profile in the subject of law at Mid Sweden University and the equivalent at UiT.
Strengthening the contact between the two universities in this area could contribute to continued academic exchange and cooperation in the field of Sámi law and indigenous peoples' rights, says Ekaterina.
