Over‑indebtedness
In the subject of law, sociological research on over-indebtedness is conducted.
This research empirically examines the causes and consequences of over-indebtedness, as well as the factors that determine different individuals' access to the welfare services that aim to preventively prevent over-indebtedness and support those who are already over-indebted (e.g. municipalities' budget and debt counselling) and to offer opportunities to take over-indebtedness (e.g. debt restructuring). This also includes evaluating how effectively these welfare services fulfil their purpose of helping vulnerable groups and reducing society's costs of over-indebtedness.
